The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced on December 30, 2025 that the agency has extended the cancellation date for approximately 17,000 nondomiciled CDLs by an additional 60 days, from January 6 to March 6. CDL holders who received a letter that their CDL would be cancelled after January 5 will receive another letter informing them of the extension.
This 60-day extension allows the parties to find a solution that permits drivers to remain working to serve our communities. The affected drivers will be receiving letters shortly, informing them of the extension.
DMV stands ready to resume issuing commercial driver’s licenses, including corrected licenses to eligible drivers.
